So, SDCC 2012 happened and boy, did I see and hear a lot of awesome stuff. Since I've been spamming tumblr with all my Comic Con posts last week, I figured I'd do the same here, albeit rather belatedly.
Day 1 THURSDAY, JULY 12The very first thing my sister and I did when we got to the convention center was go to the BBC America booth because we wanted to get some free lanyards. Sadly, because there were too many people and it was still a little bit chaotic, we couldn't get some.
With nothing else to do, we decided to go line up for panels instead. Since the first panel (Psych) we wanted to attend wasn't until 2 in the afternoon, we figured there wouldn't be a lot of people lined up for it yet considering it was only 10 in the morning. Boy, were we wrong. When we got to the line for Ballroom 20 (where it was being held), there were already a couple of hundred people there. Good thing we were more prepared for the lining up part this time than we were the first time we attended the con two years ago because we brought water and sandwiches with us. It took three hours before they let us into the ballroom. Of course, once we did get in, we were pretty close to the front, so all the waiting paid off. And we didn't leave until after Dexter, which ended at 7 PM.
Here are the videos I took of the panels:
I actually have the whole panel for Psych but it was too wobbly. This part though, was my favorite because James and Dule were just so goofy.
This panel was for the remake of the Beauty and the Beast show with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. They screened the pilot before the panel and while it wasn't mind blowing, I liked the fact that it has two strong, female, PoC detectives in it. Kristin Kreuk, aka Lana Lang from Smallville, is the lead in this and she was pretty good. The fact that its not as sickeningly romantic as the original was also a plus. I don't know if this show will survive or not, but anything with Kristin and Beauty and the Beast-themed, I will give a shot.
A little warning, the video is a bit on the shaky side. (One of the viewers commented that the video made her want to vomit and that I should buy a tripod. Oh well, you can't please everybody)
Again, the pilot was shown before the panel and I must say, I really liked it. A lot! I'm sure the Sherlock/Johnlock/Martin Freeman fans will have my head for this (and I don't really care) but I think I actually like Lucy Liu's Joan Watson more than Martin's. I guess its probably because Martin tends to play John as a little bit in love with Sherlock (I read somewhere that he ships Johnlock). With Lucy's portrayal, I didn't get that. It's like she's impressed with Holmes' skills but at the same time, she doesn't take his crap lying down. And Jonny Lee's Sherlock feels a bit more damaged, while at the same time, more attuned to the feelings of people around him. I'm really looking forward to this show now!
Gosh, I love me some Michael C. Hall. He was so charming in the panel. Jennifer was so Deb-like in that she swore a couple of times. But she was also such a darling. I can't wait to find out what Yvonne Strahovski's (Sarah from Chuck) role is in the next season.Day 2 FRIDAY, JULY 13Knowing that there was going to be a Firefly Reunion, my sister and I woke up extra early to get into Ballroom 20 because we wanted to get into that panel, as well as the one for Community. Sadly, a lot of (thousands, maybe) people had the same idea and we decided to just leave the line. FYI, the Comic Con organizers should seriously do something about the line for Ballroom 20. They're great at managing the lines for Hall H and the Indigo Ballroom, but the one for Ballroom 20 was just a joke. A lot of people, who came in late, had the audacity to cut in line in front of us, who had been there earlier than them.
The Community and Firefly panels were the only ones we wanted to get into so we didn't know where else to go. When we looked over the schedule, my sister pointed out the 'How to Break into Television Writing' panel and we ended up going to that one. It was pretty interesting and very informative. There were actually a lot of aspiring writers in the audience. I guess attending these types of panels is advantageous because you get an in with the network exec and writer. The NBC exec from the panel kept asking the writers if they've sent in their speculative scripts to her/her department. It really was a great panel and if I ever want to get into television writing, I now have an idea of what I need to do.
The Game of Thrones panel was also on Friday. But seeing as it was being held at Hall H, we knew there was no chance in hell we were getting in at that time of the day (about 11 AM). I knew they were going to have an autograph signing session at the WB booth at 4 in the afternoon so my sister and I decided to hang around for that. We walked around the gaslamp quarter for a bit, where we got a couple of freebies. After that, we made our way back to the convention center and that was when I came across Kristian Nairn aka Hodor, which I mentioned in my previous
post. Its funny because he had some bodyguards with him (there were three of them, I think) and yet, he was bigger and taller than all of them.
As we were making our way to the WB booth for the GoT signing, my sister noticed that Joel McHale was on the G4 booth. Since G4 was only a booth away from WB, we decided to see who else was there. We made our way to the back of the booth and ended up seeing the rest of the Community cast. Sadly, Danny Pudi wasn't there. Here's the video I recorded.
After recording the video, I skipped on over to the WB booth where the GoT cast were still being interviewed. I took a couple of videos too but I haven't edited them together yet. I'll post it up once I'm done. For now, here are a couple of pictures my sister took of Richard Madden, Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley and George RR Martin.
And those were my Days 1 and 2 of Comic Con. I have a lot more pictures and videos to share from days 3 and 4. I'll try to post them before the week is out! :)
Hope everyone has a good week!!!!
